A very special THANK YOU to Bill Moore and L. G. Moore Enterprises for going above and beyond in helping prepare our grounds. We could not do it without them!

Dressage
Or, the compulsories...
The dressage phase begins every eventing competition. In French, dressage means "training." The purpose of the dressage test is to demonstrate the level of communication between the horse and rider to and display the power and grace required to perform each movement with balance, rhythm, and suppleness.
Stadium (Show Jumping)
Where the excitement builds!
A show jumping course comprises a series of colored fences usually made up of lightweight rails that are easily knocked down. The test takes place in an enclosed ring and the course must be negotiated in order for the horse and rider to successfully complete the event.
Cross-Country
Heart-Pounding fun!
The object of this test is to prove the speed, endurance, and jumping ability of the horse over varied terrain and obstacles. This phase is ridden at a gallop, with exact speed requirements depending on the level of competition. Cross-country courses require horses and riders to be bold and smart, while testing their physical stamina.
We Need You..... to Volunteer!
All horse trials depend on volunteers
.. and Marlborough is no different. Volunteers are the glue that hold an event together. It is impossible to run an horse trial without willing and capable volunteers. Please consider giving to the sport in this small way!
No experience necessary for most volunteer positions. Yes, there are a few jobs that do require knowlege of the sport and/or task, but for the most part "it's so easy a caveman could do it!" And yes, there are probably times when riders feel like a caveman did call that refusal at the water, but all riders know that they would never have the opportunity to ride if not for the nice person sitting by the jump watching riders go by and keeping score for each one.
Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of jobs and not always on the day of the event! Before the event we need help clearing the galloping lanes through the woods, painting and cleaning jumps, decorating, flagging and so much more. During the event we need volunteers for all three competition areas as well as scoring, parking, and hospitality just to name a few. After the event we need help putting all the equipment away, retuning borrowed plants and shrubbery and tidying up our beautiful state parks.
Since we are a 501 (c) 3, non-profit, organization we are the perfect opportunity for scouting organizations and others looking to earn community service credits. We not only provide a valuable service to the equestrian community; we also work hard throughout the year to maintain the beautiful land in Rosaryville State Park. In order to preserve the area for the horse trials we keep up with mowing, tree-timming and trail clearing all year round. So, there truly is an opportunity for anyone who wants to donate time on behalf of the Marlborough Horse Trials!

Experience the thrill of eventing through volunteering!
Get closer, get out, have fun
The best part of volunteering is the opportunity to watch horses and riders negotiate dressage tests with precision and grace; show jumping's power, speed and skill and witnessing the sheer joy of a pair galloping cross-country over beautiful courses; two minds, two bodies, working as one!
